Theme Racial Division & Pandemic Presentation Reflection
Because the presence of racism and bias in any of our institutions limits our reach and the possibility of realizing the full promise and potential of an equitably informed public, we must go beyond hashtags, statements, and committees and do the hands-on work needed to systemically uproot racism. This requires that we be willing to confront racism in our communities and our own homes. I am frustrated. I am frustrated by the plague of racism in the US, which leads to injustice. Others have come to believe that initiatives that want to transform struggling communities need to find ways to break down the separation that exists between the initiative’s leaders and staff and the people whose lives are supposed to be helped.
The twin pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism have thrust the challenges people across the diaspora face into sharp relief. But anti-racial discrimination and the struggle for freedom and racial equality globally. Spurred by the US uprisings in response to their deaths and powered by centuries of entrenched anti-racism, protests have broken out around the world in support of people living in America but also to shine a light on the racial injustices experienced by people wherever we may be. There is a growing international movement of resistance connected and reinvigorated to dismantle the structures of racism and oppression to finally get the justice people to deserve. At this moment, we are witnessing a global reckoning as people grapple with and speak out against histories of colonialism, racism, sexism, and anti-racism that have impeded equality around the world.
Currently, in both the international system and the inter-American system for the protection of human rights, some instruments emphasize the obligation of States to guarantee the observance of the rights of all human beings, without distinction as to race, gender, religion, or political stance. However, although a considerable body of treaties, declarations, and conventions exists to safeguard such equality in law. I talked about the incorporation of communication and racial division within the world. How the old ways of conquering give ways to civilizations and nations that stand today, their social, political, and economic structures. I also learned about the difficulties of others during the pandemic while, I, myself is going through this journey as well. I believe the result of this project is an eye-opener and a great learning experience for those who aren’t as involved with worldly affairs. Having learned background knowledge of how things came to be and why, as to know that this certain event just happened out of nowhere. The coronavirus pandemic presents distinct challenges to residency programs attempting to promote resident well-being and connectedness by hampering the ability to gather physically. Despite this, it also offers learning opportunities, given the unique nature of this event in public health history. We describe here a virtual creative reflection exercise delivered with the goals of promoting resident learning and well-being.
Reflection has been posited as a means for learning in medical education by promoting the development of professional expertise and allowing for the exploration of emotions. Novel experiences like the pandemic offer a critical opportunity for reflection in action, allowing for modification of practice in real-time, as well as the integration of mental models that can be deployed to respond to new, complex, and poorly defined future situations. Both are defining features of professional expertise. Exploring emotions, both one’s own and others’, is critical for learners during this stressful and potentially traumatic time. Reflection has been thought to increase provider well-being by promoting self-healing through processing difficult experiences and emotions, reducing isolation, and restoring a sense of community. Indeed, systematic self-reflection about one’s response to a stressor has been theorized as key to promoting resilience.

All in all everyone in my class did an amazing job presenting . The topics that we discussed were topics that are very big and that play a huge role in our world today . Since the 2020 election was such a huge election I loved how all the topics were incorporated. I would also like to say that so far this is my favorite project. It was very fun to do and to research on. Everyone educated me about new things that I’ve never knew of before.
Group 1 did an amazing job informing us about Law in order - protest and rallies & Education. They all spoke so well on the topics. I loved how they showed the history of law in order and where everything started. I also loved how they shared the impacts of protest and rallies . Last but not least I also loved how they discussed the significance or education and the lack of education back then and today .
Group 2 did an amazing job as well informing us about Healthcare and immigration. Everything was very organized and well put together. I also loved how they compared the candidates to their topics . It was very interesting to hear their thoughts on healthcare and immigration. Healthcare is very pricey and not everyone could afford it. They’re a lot of people in the U.S right now that doesn’t have healthcare to this day . I loved how they an analyzed the dynamics of the current healthcare systems . They also gave their viewpoints on the existing immigration crisis which is very big today.
Group 3 which is my group in my opinion did an amazing job as well speaking on the racial divides and the pandemic. I loved how my group incorporated our chapters into our topics as well. Our two topics are very two important topics in the world right now. The pandemic is the biggest topic talked about today . So many people lost their lives to this particular disease. My group did an amazing job discussing the effects of of the pandemic also . Racial divides is also and very very important topic discussed in the world today. Racism is affecting our world today more than anything. It was amazing to hear what people thought about racial divides and what it meant to them and to see which ones have been a victims of racism during the interviews that were conducted. In my opinion it’s crazy how many people in the world are still racist were all human no matter what’s our race or skin color.
Group 4 was my favorite presentation. I love how everything was together and on point. Their presentation was very creative and thoughtful. I love how they made their own logo I found it very creative and different . I also loved how they voiced their opinions about the topics . I also loved how they pre recorded the video and add their voices to it . I’m not a tech type of person so to see that was amazing.

This project was very interesting to say the least. Each group was assigned a theme that is affecting us everyday. Since its 2020 it feels like these themes are somehow accentuated with the elections and all. Anyways these themes are what is affecting our lives right now, like racial divides and the pandemic. Each group did a great job on their presentations, providing tons of information that was easy to understand. Group 1 talked about law and order. They did a great job with relaying their information on history about the past rallies and education cases, which have impacted America immensely. Talking about court cases such as the Brown v. Board of education or Martin Luther King’s “I had a dream” speech had a large influence on America. Overall this group did a great job showing the history of these educational differences in history and how peaceful protests have worked and shaped America today. Group 2 did a great job informing us on healthcare and immigration. They did a very good job with their organization and design of their PowerPoint. They also did a great job with their topics. Healthcare is a very touchy topic in America for some reason. Health care is very expensive and not everyone could afford it. People are also trying to get rid of the healthcare system, not caring about the importance of it. Group 2 also talked about the immigration. It was great how they integrated their topics to create such a beautifully put together presentation. Group 3 which is the group I’m a part of also did a great job organizing and talking about our topic. My group did an amazing job talking about the racial divides and the pandemic. We started off the presentation with racial divides and how they affect America. Racism is everywhere in the United states. There is hidden racism and more blatantly obvious cases of them. You can see these in certain neighborhoods or schools that treat people with different skin colors differently. You notice it with the social welfare of the different neighborhoods and authorities of these African Americans. The pandemic is a big topic for group 3 too. The pandemic has put a hamper on our social lives and our physical/mental health as well. We cannot see some of our family members or friends without threatening their lives due to covid. Finally group 4 did a great job dare I say the best job out of all the groups. I was genuinely surprised with the quality of work that Fahim and Kassandra were able to put into the video/presentation. They did a good job on showing all the important information such as voting districts, voting dates, and important people that are running for political parties soon. Their presentation felt the most professional and well thought out, out of the four presentations. As a whole the class did a great job with their presentations. They gave tons of great information and somehow cut down all of it from the immense world of research to give us their great presentations.

I found this project very interesting to do. Each group was assigned a different topic to do research on. Such as find the history behind it or different perspectives from everyone Americans vs. the world. I was really interested in all the topics presented because they had a lot to do with today’s world especially 2020, the pandemic for example. This election is such an important one and to have all these important topics such as Racial divides, the pandemic, Health care, immigration, education and law and order protest was really good because each group gave a lot of information about every topic assigned to them. Group 1 presented about Law and order protest and rallies & education, and they did an amazing job informing us about all it. I was interested when they showed all the history behind it and all the impacts the rallies and protests have had. I also really liked how they talked about the difference between the education now and back then. Also talked about court cases that have had an impact on America immensely. Group 2 talked about healthcare and immigration, I found that they also did a good job at informing us about it. I also liked their presentation it was very organized. Healthcare is a topic everyone talks about especially in America. Healthcare has gotten very expensive and not everyone can afford it. There are many people right now in the united states that don’t have healthcare. Also, how they are trying to remove it without caring that many people need it. They also talked about immigration putting different viewpoints in their presentation from current events. Overall, I really enjoyed their presentation. Then there is group 3 which is my group. We talked about Racial divides and the pandemic. I found that we did a pretty good job organizing the presentation and incorporating our topics together. Both our topic is very important especially nowadays. We first talked about racial divides and how it has affected America. Racism is everywhere still and its still affecting our world today more than anything. You can see it in some schools or neighborhoods or social media treating people differently just based on their skin color. The pandemic is a topic that everyone is talking about all around the world. It has put block on how we would normally live our lives especially our social lives. Seeing some of our long-distance family and friends is hard now without putting them or ourselves at risk due to COVID. As well as all the important information we need to keep in mind during everything to keep ourselves as safe as possible. Overall, I believe we did a pretty good job with everything. As well as the presentation Kassandra and Fahim did at the beginning it was such a nice and professional presentation. I loved how they showed us all the important things we needed to know like voting during elections, important people running for different political parties and important voting information like voting dates. All in all everyone did an amazing job with all the topics and bringing us important research in each presentation.

This project in groups was an interesting one to complete and overall assemble because it required a lot of cooperation from various people and it tested our ability to work in groups well. Everyone was assigned different subjects that have affected us today and put us in the position we are in which I thought was a very smart way to incorporate politics, world affairs, and health issues that have changed our lives in the past few months. The groups were given topics such as law and order-protests and rallies, education, health care, racial divides, and the pandemic to elaborate on and further involve themselves and their classmates in how the world is evolving recently. The groups were led by a wonderful 28 minute long introduction by Kassandra and Fahim which used spectacular programming softwares to bring together an informational video that talked about the politics behind the elections, who our assigned district representatives were and how we could contact them if we had any questions, and how each group would introduce the issues assigned to them and how they related to the chapters in the book.
Group 1 did an amazing job when given the task of relating how law and order protests/rallies related to social issues happening today and I also loved how they managed to incorporate the history of law and how education has changed over the years and how its significance has changed greatly. I enjoyed how they slipped in the history of how law started and its huge significance in today's society. Group 2 also did an amazing job when presenting on Health care and Immigration. Health care in America has always been a controversial topic due to the fact that too many people pay way too much while some cant even afford it and risk having health issues due to the lack of medical insurance that will help them cover the costs. In regards to immigration, I agreed on how they related to how the immigration crisis is taking many jobs from Americans due to the low labor costs as well as how the country is dealing with matters over in the border.
In Group 3, we managed to relate how the Racial Divides and issues with the Pandemic have affected society today in relation to our chapter on communication and how to express and interpret the different ways of socializing in society. The whole issue with blue and black lives matter have really put into perspective on how we see each other's role in society and how we are willing to change the stereotypes people have engraved in their minds about others. We also discussed how the pandemic came to be and how people do not take the proper precautions and that is why we have fallen into such a state where COVID is how it is in our surroundings and how it has affected how we deal with obstacles in our lives. Overall, I believe all groups did an excellent job in handling the topics assigned to them and how they represented their chapter by relaying the information to their classmates properly.

This project was very interesting and informative. We all had to work in groups and present research about different topics. This project made us all interact with one another and work as a team. Everyone in the group was separated into smaller groups for our chapter. For example, I had chapter six, and so did two other classmates. The chapter was based on listening and we had to incorporate listening into our subtopics which was the pandemic. The topics that were chosen were superb since it is very prevalent in our everyday lives right now. Different groups also had to talk about racial divides and the election. Two things that are also very impactful in our life's. With the election being so close to the project this was the perfect time to incorporate that certain theme in the presentation. Group 2 was very informative and had very interesting videos, they were also very straight to the point which I enjoyed, they did not beat around the bush. From the very beginning the presentation started off great with Kassandra and Fahim talking about the election and with such little time compared with everyone else, as well as them having only two people in their presentation group they did a very spectacular job, I applaud them for their hard-work and creativity behind the whole project. We all did an amazing job with our presentations, everyone was very well spoken and had great material, you could tell that everyone worked hard into incorporating the topics and the chapters together into three slides, with different visuals and videos. Group one also did an amazing job they dived into the information regarding to racial divides and law and order, as well as how all the rallies and protests have come about. They also included how law has really progressed and changed education over the years. Group three definitely took into account how covid began and how many individuals are not taking it seriously, by not wearing their mask fully on and only thinking about themselves and not others, if you have good hygiene and you continue to wear your mask properly and wash your hands on the regular, as well as standing six feet apart from others. Then there really would not be any more casualties, however people just have to be mindful of others and stop being egocentric. Group three talked about all of these issues. Overall all the groups did an amazing job incorporating different things to speak about in the presentation. I did not see anyone use the same information twice, everyone’s presentation was very unique and one of a kind. It really did shed light and conversation about everything that is going on in today's society. How people are still racist to this day and how many people actually care about stopping racism, if they did not then all of the rallies and protest that happened would not have happened, but this is a very progressive generation and so many people care about all the social issues that are happening and they know that it is not right to still be happening in today’s world. I am very grateful to be a part of this young generation, we know we have a voice and we are not scared to use it.
-Gregory Baltodano
Overall, all groups did an amazing job in the creation of
this presentation and as well as the execution of this presentations. This project
required a lot of communication and work to be done between the groups so that a
chapter could be covered thoroughly, and all key points are taught. Each group
was assigned some topics in which they had to incorporate into the presentation
of the chapters. The topics that were assigned were all very relevant in the
times we are now some of those topics were the protests, riots, the pandemic,
racial divides, and the presidential election. Doing this required us to think deeper
of a way for us to incorporate the topic with the contents of the chapter.
Group 1 did a great job in providing us information for rallies, protests, education,
and law in order. Everyone in the group was very well spoken and knew the topic
thoroughly and the connection with their topic. They also did a great job when
brining the history of America and the landmark cases about education and law
in order that made America. Overall, they did a great job and demonstrated
their topic along with their chapter well. Group 2 brought an excellent project
on immigration and health care informing us about this topic. They talked about
how health care is expensive and there are a lot of people that could not afford
it, and how people are just trying to get rid of the healthcare system which is
something so very important. When speaking on immigration they voiced their
opinion in their point of view and spoke about the immigration crisis. Kassandra
and Fahim did an extraordinary job with their presentation on the elections and
giving us useful information about our representatives and as well as inform us
on how each group would provide their information related to their topic. They pulled
off something so great having little time and having a disadvantage to the
other groups since they were only two people compared to the other groups. Group
3 which is the group I am a part of, we had to present racial divides and the
pandemic. Each person from my group did a great job. The way people were able
to tie the topic with our chapter was amazing. When it came to the structuring
of the presentation everyone was so helpful and would contribute in any way to be
able to get this presentation done and together in time to be able to present
it. When it came down to the actual presentation everyone was very well spoken I
know a couple people were nervous at first but when they had to present their part
they held it down and got their points across in order for us to have a successful
presentation. When speaking on racism they talked about how it is still an
ongoing problem affection America, also on how common racism is seen in
neighborhood, schools, and even social media. People are still being taunted by
racism after so many years of fighting. The pandemic, also one of our topics
was presented nicely, taking precautions and being aware of your surrounding is
important because in these times it is important to listen and obey what
officials are saying. All in all, everyone did and excellent job and I want to
applaud all groups for their hard work and time that they put into this
presentation.
-Daniel Mirabal
All in all, everyone’s
work was superb the presentations were very well constructed and explained
clearly and effortlessly to the class. This project required a great deal of
correspondence and work to be done between the groups with the goal that every
section could be covered completely, and all central issues are educated around
the globe are made known to those listening and I believe that goal was met.
Group 1 had a great presentation with the task handed to them responded that
task was law and order along with protest and rallies and how today those
issues have been presented to the public and society as a whole. They were able
to mention how law and its history has gone through great deals of changes over
the countless decades it has been around too. Group 2 also did a tremendous job
while introducing Health care and Immigration to the on watchers. They
explained how Medical care in America has consistently been a dubious subject
because of the way that an excessive number of individuals pay an excessive lot
while some cannot manage the cost of it and danger having medical problems
because of the absence of clinical protection that will assist them with taking
care of the expenses. They also spoke on how immigration from countries
illegally is taking jobs from most Americans and because of this they have no
choice but to try and mediate the border with officers and different forms of
making sure they don’t enter illegally. Group 3 which is my group presented on racial
divides along with the pandemic I feel like we did a great job as well and
really hope our presentation as much as we did theirs we spoke about the
evident racism surrounding our country and how people of their black descent
are treated differently from those with white color whether, it be in stores,
schools, or any type of gathering racism is around no matter where you go, The
history of racism was also discussed and how it’s been around for over a
century which is sad in itself to even say. The pandemic was also covered along
with how it has ruined all our public activities and our physical/emotional
wellness too. Along with the fact that we can't see a portion of our relatives
or companions without compromising their health in the process all due to the Coronavirus.
Group 4 really showed out too there presentation came out very organized and
really made an emphasis on getting all there points across while also showing
how important it is in this day and age to get out and vote because if you do
not your basically jeopardizing your own country and not using your right to
your advantage. Overall all the presentations were
structured very well and provided countless forms of information by all the
groups. On top of this I learned and was influenced on a lot of things I didn’t
think I would be. They were all great and I hope the other groups enjoyed ours
as much as we did there’s.
