Presentation Reflection Group 3

 -Javier Izquierdo

These presentations were the best presentations I've seen from any group of students. I recently graduated high school so my sample size is small, although it’s small I loved every minute of the presentations. Each member had to do their own section of the slide, so each section had their own personality and flow. Group 1 was the first group to present, obviously, so they had to pull through with less time to create their power point compared to the other groups. Although they had a time crunch they came out and executed their presentation, which was amazing! Group 1, also had great visuals, although there were good videos there were too many and that made some of them not as memorable. Overall group 1 did a great job putting their point across. Group 2 came out with a great presentation too! They presented their topic on group communication. I feel like this is the most impactful one because we are always in a group as said in the presentation. I enjoyed the same things as group one such as the different variety of styles and how in the power point. Their topic is also very important in the world. They talked about how groups work and how we always tend to be part of a group. We are in groups to help each other achieve our goals and get work done. This really speaks to me. They also had great visuals along with their presentation, my favorite video was the one where they categorized the jelly beans. Although you may not think to put jelly beans into groups you definitely can. They could fit into many groups, for example the green jellybean could go with a military bag or a tropical bag. This may be funny how i’m saying that we relate to a jelly bean but it's true we are all categorized into our own little groups. Group 3, which is my group, presented on the topic of leadership. Our presentation is more linear and less exciting compared to group 2, but I still think it was a great presentation. I personally think that our topic was the least interesting compared to the other groups. We also did not have that many videos compared to the other groups. We did have a more linear and put together power point which made it look more “professional”, but I like how personalized the other groups power point looked. Overall I felt like this was a great first project to start off the class. There were great moments to be made with this project. It helped get rid of some of the jitters of presenting, showing off the group's hard work and getting a great response from the professor, Sherri Sinkoff who helped us through the process. Group 1 and group 2 were amazing and did a great job with their presentations. I forgot the two group leaders Sonia and Robert who were a great help especially for the technical difficulties we had at the start of class. Overall this was great.

In the previous classes watching everybody presenting the chapters that they we’re assigned to was really nice. I’m not really a fan of presenting in front of people or presenting at all. For this project and presentation to be our first, it went really well. Everybody in every group in my opinion did an amazing job doing their part when it came to the chapters that were assigned to them. I learned new things about certain topics I've never knew before and certain topics stood out. Group one was my favorite group. What really stood out to me when group one presented was when they spoke on the difference between race and ethnicity. The video that was shown really had some important facts about the difference and why you should know and not get the two confused. The use of jelly beans as an analog parallel was brilliant. People now in the world today are still confused on the difference between race and ethnicity. Just because a person's skin color is black or white doesn’t mean they’re the same ethnicity they be Nigerian or British. I don’t think people are educated enough to know the difference and I’ve seen it firsthand. On the other hand, Group 1 did an excellent job with presenting chapter three it was very well explained.  Another thing that stood out to me during their presentation was when they spoke on the importance of Intercultural communication. Today it is important to have the knowledge of culture. A significant part of the intercultural competence of an individual is intercultural communication. Group 2 did an amazing job with presenting chapter nine. Communicating Groups play a very important role in communication. It is important because it is through messages that groups make decisions, manage conflicts and build a relationship that is necessary to keep the group going in difficult circumstances. Group two in my opinion did an amazing job explaining the different types of communicating groups. Group 3 which was the group I was in. In my opinion I feel that we did an amazing job on our part. As well for this being my first presentation ever since college began. This is my first year taking this class and I’ll say I'm very proud that I was able to present in front of my class.  It was very nerve recking because I'm not used to doing things like this However, when talking to large audiences, I don't have a lot of experience. So, for me to actually be confident enough to talk in front of a crowd even through virtual school is a big accomplishment for me. I even learned more about the part that I worked on which was communicating group solutions. I never knew the different ways you could communicate your group solutions. I feel that my classmates and I explained Group Leadership and Problem Solving. Such as what is leadership and the many different types of leaders and the major roles that leader plays when communicating.

In the past weeks we have all been selected to be in three groups, for chapters 3,9, and 10. Group one was in charge of chapter three, group two was in charge of chapter nine, and finally group three was in charge of chapter ten which was my group. this experience was a rewarding one, it made me get closer with my group and its individuals, we all had a task set to do and we all delivered it quite wonderfully. Our presentation was based on group leadership and problem solving, in the middle of us working on the PowerPoint more students were enrolled in this amazing class and we had to divide the work among ourselves. All students did very well, most were very prepared and excited to have their first assignment be done. I also noticed that students were also very nervous which makes perfect sense, even though we are in our homes for the meanwhile and do not have to go in front of a classroom and show our face to everyone it is still nerve racking to be talking in front of people and making your voice be heard. For me at least, you can say I was nervous, my palms were sweaty, I stuttered and my heart was palpitating as if I was running from something horrible. However, we all have to understand that talking to people is essential in life and in the work force. All of these assignments are there to show us how we can do better for next time. I do strongly believe that time was not in our side we only have fifty minutes per class and there were many slides to go through, plus most of the time we started a bit late due to some technical difficulties most of us were having. which leads me to say that it would have been ten times better if we were doing this in a class setting without using technology, it would have certainly gone a lot smoother and not as rushed. When my classmates and I were done presenting I felt great relief I thought we all did great and did not run past time as much as I thought we would have. Group one was very straight to the point in their presentation and so was group two, they both had great speakers and were very good at making the listeners keep interest in what they were trying to explain. They all definitely kept my attention even though it was early in the morning, they also did not read all the time from the presentation but rather had examples that they shared with the entire class that was not in the presentation which I found was very professional and well thought out, that way when they are talking, it is as if they are actually talking to us and not reading from the page. I admire the determination of my classmates and how well we all worked together in this project.

Watching these presentations help me understand something. It help realize that just a tiny bit can make a difference. Seeing my fellow classmates present one by one and all giving their own opinions and feedback on what they thought was great. Being able to see that no one is ever alike. Everyone has their own characteristics and manners to life. Watching these presentations and actually learning and allowing to use the knowledge for future use is going to be awesome. My classmates use a certain way to connect their audience to the powerpoint presentation. Each group performed great and gave a lot of details about what they were presenting. My group had chapter 10. I was kinda late to the party.i joined the class the second week of school. Seeing my group mates around working hard and having most of their work done makes you feel just a little different. Different in the way where you are kinda lost since you weren't able to hear the instructions when they were said. Making you feel like a little bothering for your classmates since now you need to ask for their help and use their time up. Another thing is there is a little bit of pressure put on you because now you have to catch up to them and finish up as quickly as you can so that you don't the last one and have them waiting for you. However this presentation helps in ways where I would be able to use this information in and out of school. Learning how and what's the proper way to act and contribute in a work environment can help in the future. Being able to show your skills and abilities in a professional way and be able to astonish people with your knowledge and actions is a pretty cool thing. Also being able to help and provide and be a creator and not just being part of something is a cool thing too. Sometimes one thinks that group might not be the right thing and working alone is easier;however sometimes when working with groups ideas are giving out and opinions are given help create good and great things. My group allowed for me to practice group working and allowed me to get better on small details that I lack on and allowed me to receive the feedback in a way that I can turn into a learning experience.

In these past weeks we had our first project. Everyone was put into 3 groups, each group were assigned to different chapters to talk abouteither chapters 3,9, or 10. Group one talked about race, ethnicity and sexuality. I really enjoyed group 1 presentation their topics were interesting; they had a lot to do with everything in today's modern world. I really enjoyed the video they put of the different jellybeans and how they were all put into their own little groups, really made me think how we relate to them, which is crazy to say but it's true. I also found important that they talked about different ethnicities, many people are quick to judge others just for their race and ethnicity I found that their presentation had good explanations on how it doesn’t matter whether you’re black or white your ethnicity could still be the same. Everyone should be treated equal no matter their race or ethnicity. Their other videos were nice too but that one was the one with the jellybeans really stood up to me. They were also creative with their PowerPoint considering they had less time than everyone else. Overall, really enjoyed their presentation. Group 2 talked about topic I find important overall, group communication. I feel like that was an important topic especially considering that we were all working in groups and having good communication is a key thing for everyone, it helps avoid conflicts among team members. There are a lot of times we must work in groups either if it's something for school or work it's good to know the importance of group communication. In my opinion having good communication among your group helps build strong relationships among classmates or coworkers. It was a good thing everyone got to learn it bit more about the topic, helps us get a bit more prepared for the world. I really enjoyed their presentation as well, lots of great visuals however they had a lot of videos which is great but not when it comes to having little time to present which is what happened. However, they still did an amazing job in elaborating everything. Finally, group 3 which was my group, talked about team leadership. This was also a good topic to know a bit more about. In my opinion we did a good job elaborating everything. We had some good visuals and some videos as well. I feel that everyone enjoyed the video we had of all the Disney movie examples of the importance of working in groups and everyone having good communication. We had a pretty good PowerPoint each member of the group worked on their own part and at the end we put all our work together and ended up with a good and organized presentation I my opinion. Overall, I believe we all did a good job for it being our first project for the class and considering everyone gets the jitters when it comes to presenting, everyone did their part and completed everything on time for their own presentation.

There have been countless documented leaders whether it be politically, in sports, or even the work force leaders are essential for others to function in a team based environment. The team will always need that guy let them know what to do, how to do it and how to go about it or to emotionally support them and make sure to keep their head up even if it looks like they are down for the count. These people are truly essential whether it may seem like it or not and they come in a variety of ways either the entire team can have a power of a leader or one sole person just calls all the shots but there’s regulations to it as well. My topic was regarding what leader ship is which basically means Leadership is a process “whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.” Being a leader usually meant who was in charge but it is key for a leader to be able to communicate with others and know all the group members expertise and strengths. Informal emergent leaders help lead the group to different leadership functions they tend create effective leadership within groups. This is due to the fact that even if one person is elected leader they all participate in different aspects of leadership in order to create synergy. The presentation also included the different types of formal leaders which is a person who is designated or elected to oversee the group, process. Along with the five common types of formal leadership styles which include the Autocratic Leadership Style that gives full power and authority is given to the leader who makes the ultimate decision. The Democratic/Participative style which gives all the team members are involved in the critical decisions. The Laissez- Faire Leadership style which is when responsibility is delegated to team members and they are free to work on their own with minimum to no interference. The Transformational Leadership Style which is when leaders set high goals and strict deadlines for themselves and the team to achieve exceptional results. And finally the Servant Leadership Style who’s main Focus is on being a servant to others first in order to ensure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. As a result, all members are empowered to grow their fullest potential. My thoughts on our group is I believe we had a decent amount of information. The information was put out easily enough to be understood at all levels along with some entertaining videos for those who rather learn visually rather than by listening. All in all the other presentations were structured very well and provided countless forms of information by both groups. On top of this I enjoyed listening and learning about them with the videos provided within them making it really entertaining and not an overflow of just information the entire presentation. All around they were great and I hope the other groups enjoyed ours as much as we did there’s.

Throughout history, great leaders have emerged with particular leadership styles in providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people. These can be broadly grouped into different categories. One popular style of leadership is rooted in democratic theory. The point is to involve members in the group to create decisions and solutions to problems, making the process of developmental cooperation and thinking. This allows the team members to feel included, engaged, and motivated to contribute. The leader will normally have the last word in the decision-making processes. However, if there are disagreements within a group, it can be a time-consuming process to reach a consensus. Although this may be detrimental towards fast solutions, it brings the opportunity to progressive ones.

The topic I covered was various types of Delegative leadership styles that focus on delegating initiative to team members. This can be a successful strategy if team members are competent, take responsibility, and prefer engaging in individual work. Although, disagreements among the members may split and divide a group, leading to poor motivation and low morale. I realized from reading this chapter how this leadership style is delegated into reality, using the example of the recent presentation we had in class. Professor Sinkoff divided the class into three groups taking two students as moderators to supervise the three groups. Within the three group, we had someone who would take the lead of the project as we all cooperated. This worked like a pyramid; In spite of that, they're a bit of confusion in working the division out.

My final thoughts on reading chapter 10 and incorporating it into reality were the thought of the future. There will be research on leadership far into the future.  Interest in it will remain relentless and a total solution will probably never occur. Development in leadership will continue as organizations look to grow great people.  Leaders affect culture, culture affects people, and people drive organizations. Getting leadership right is more than an economic issue, although getting it wrong will significantly affect productivity and growth. As organizations begin to appreciate human effects such as inclusion, there is a real opportunity to develop great leaders.  These will be from diverse backgrounds, have strong moral and ethical approaches that live their own values and respect that of others. This kind of leadership, when authentically applied is powerful and has the potential to create great people.

Although this is occurring in present, I believe the rate of better leadership and Worldly participation of working together as one would be inspired by this tragic deadly virus, the World will use this opportunity to show their flaws within the system in the use of now. In hindsight, looking back at historical tragedies that occur it brought the world together at one point; only for things to take fifteen steps back at the progress they made. One day we will unite as one.

In short, I personally enjoyed the presentations, seeing the creativity of others inspires and meanwhile learning is very helpful to paint a picture; allowing one to visualize and understand the presenter learned themselves.

This project that we just finished presenting about a week or so ago was more than just some ordinary assignment given to us. It was honestly a life lesson. These presentations brought to us by our classmates taught us several unique skills that we will have to apply in the real world. For example, you have group one that did a phenomenal job explaining to us the difference between race and ethnicity. Many ignorant people lack the knowledge of understanding the difference between the two, and it’s ok because some of us haven’t been taught properly. But with this power point brought to us by group 1 I feel like we can help those in need of understanding because of the different analogies and explanations used. I also feel like the way group one presented would give the person lacking the knowledge of the subject a broader way of thinking and understanding by the way they utilized the videos and pictures.

Then we have group two, another group with an amazing presentation. They basically presented on group communication which I think was the most important topic because without communication there is no group. They talked about the specifications of why communicating is so important, and that’s because everyone needs to be on the same page when working in groups whether it’s at home with your family, at work with your coworkers, at school with your classmates or on the field with your teammates. If not everything comes down tumbling. And group two explained that very well, they showed us how working together gets things done a lot more efficiently. They as well had a great PowerPoint put together with a lot of visual appearance and great speaking.

The final presentation was done by group three, the group I was apart of. Our presentation consisted of leadership and problem solving techniques, which I personally think is a great subject to speak on just because it’s something many of us humans lack. Being a leader doesn’t literally mean you have to be the top dog of whatever your doing at the moment, it means being  able to take responsibility when needed, it means to be able to step up whenever needed, it means not being of afraid of putting in your opinion of the situation, it’s means being able to take a handle a situation in the best way possible. I feel like my group did a great job in sense of presenting just because we knew what our parts were basically about, we studied our parts as much as we could to understand and feel like we could’ve taught our parts of the chapter. We made sure to add visual appearance to make the presentation a lot more understandable and presentable. We also added some videos to open up other students minds to get them to comprehend that there’s more than just one type of leadership.

I feel like this assignment was great one. Many of us might’ve been upset at the fact that we were assigned this but one we will look back and see that these presentations taught us valuable lessons in life that will carry on forever.

These past few classes we have been all teaching each other important materials on information as seen on chapters 3,9,and 10. During the presentations I have learned that people have their own teaching styles and their own way of learning the material which is often how their part of the presentation was being guided. Many people have different learning styles and that showed, due to the fact that many included more audio visuals such as videos, while others worked much more with pictures and words. This basically reflects each person’s way of thinking and their way of analyzing information and projecting it to other people in a way they believe others understand. I thought that the presentations went great and that many people did an excellent job at simplifying the information on each chapter so that it was much easier to understand without each person having to read the chapter. I did have some difficulties while understanding some information from chapter 9 but near the end group 2 had added a short video that kind of clicked to my visual learning style and helped me a bit more. For group 1’s presentation I was actually very impressed because they were able to present pretty fluidly the information once we got started and Robert took the reins with the PowerPoint. They did a great job of breaking down the information and explaining the differences and similarities that are related with the themes such as nationality and religion, sex and gender, etc. Although at the beginning of each class we did experience some difficulties in displaying the PowerPoint with each group, I was very thankful to Robert and Sonia because they were always there asking if they were able to be of any help with the information or with the technology since most of us are much more suitable for using it than others due to experience. Some of the videos that stuck with me due to the fact that they were entertaining and eye catching were the videos that explained nationality and religion with jelly beans; it was an excellent video that simplified the intake of information which made learning the topic much easier. The other video was the minion video which explained the importance of teamwork and group problem solving that lead to the success of a certain group through collaboration and how leadership can take many forms. All in all, I enjoyed the presentations in general because it was something different that I thought was fun and it helps students engage with each other. It teaches us the importance of teamwork and how to work with each other in order to become successful in our tasks. I believe our presentation was successful because each person in our group contributed equally by reading their section of the chapter while helping others that had problems and made the presentation flow much more smoothly. In conclusion, the presentations were a success but I do believe that it was all due to the collective effort from everyone in the group, Robert and Sonia, and well as the Professor because they all made themselves available to those in need. I learned that leadership is something important to a group and that it’s something necessary in order to have an organized and successful presentation.

In the past classes we have been watching and hearing beautiful presentations from our fellow classmates on chapters 3, 9, 10. In these presentations I saw various way people used to get their information across. Some people are visual learners’ others learn more from reading and other learn more just by listening to what someone has to say. I really enjoyed this type of activity because everyone gets to incorporate their own style of learning into their own presentation. It’s not the same as having a professor just speak through a class and you lose focus. All presentations were very engaging they incorporated videos which for me is the best way to learn because as I am listening to someone speak, I also get a visual of what they are saying. When creating our own presentation, I loved how helpful my group was as well as Robert and Sonia they clarified many things that might has been misunderstood giving us the best experience when having to actually complete our work. My group did an excellent job in their own presentations, everyone got the information they needed to get across. When it was my time to present, I was extremely nervous I am not the type to be very outspoken to a group of people and usually just stutter and forget everything I have to say. Thankfully, that was not the case although I was nervous it is not the same as having to present in person to a group of people. When group 1 was presenting about intercultural communication I thought that was very important because simple little actions can say a lot when you and another person do not speak the same language. Especially living in South Florida which is filled with people of all countries and many tourists from all parts of the world we must be able to communicate simple things in case we ever need to. Group 1 overall did an amazing job with their presentation and incorporated videos and people spoke and demonstrated what they were speaking about. Group 2 spoke about group communication something we need to have knowledge on since now in school we are doing a lot of group work also in work environments where you need to work as a team you need to be able to communicate your concerns or any type of information that should be passed around to ensure you are able to work fluently and everyone is caught up on what they need to know. Overall all my classmates did an amazing job in delivering the information in various type of ways to keep everyone engaged and for everyone to capture the information given. All groups demonstrated full knowledge of the information they were teaching us. Just like me I figured many other people would be as or more nervous than I was to present but got past in and presented with ease and did great. This group project taught us a lot not just from the chapters but from experiences we had during the making of the project.
